Last week our JDS students wrote letters and drew pictures to send to Israel Defense Forces soldiers, which we uploaded through the National Library of Israel’s website.
With the understanding that there is always more to do, this week the kids decided to undertake another project – raising money for Magen David Adom, an organization in Israel that oversees disaster relief, as well as ambulance and blood services. As one student remarked: “There are a lot of bad things going on in Israel and we want to help.”
Some of our students and teachers want to help even more because they have relatives in Israel who are soldiers in the IDF. With the goal of raising money from within our congregation, the kids decided on a quote from the Magen David Adom website as their pitch: By donating money, you can save a life in Israel from thousands of miles away.
JDS will be collecting money through the end of Chanukah for this appeal. If you would like to donate, click on the Donate button on the top right. In the drop down menu, scroll down to the Jewish Discovery School.
We will also be putting out a donation box at all non-Shabbat events held at the synagogue. When the fundraising drive is over, JDS will donate all the money collected through the Magen David Adom website.
Donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed. We accept PayPal, Discover, MasterCard and Visa. Send donations to: Rutland Jewish Center, 96 Grove Street, Rutland, VT 05701 Please let us know if your donation is in honor or memory of a person or event.
