B'nai Mitzvah at RJC
B'nai mitzvah is more than an event; as we say in the Jewish tradition, you do not have a bar or bat mitzvah, you become one.
In addition to Jewish Discovery School during the regular academic year, RJC provides preparation for our students who wish to publicly mark their becoming a bar or bat mitzvah (collectively, b'nai mitzvah) with the community as part of a Saturday morning service.
Our students prepare for this milestone in the year or two leading up to their 13th birthday, with individual and group lessons with the rabbi, and personal study and reflection. As part of their preparation, each student undertakes a special project, of personal or community service or charity. Our goal is to create a meaningful experience for b'nai mitzvah and their families.
