B'nai Mitzvah at RJC
B'nai mitzvah is more than an event; as we say in the Jewish tradition, you do not have a bar or bat mitzvah, you become one.
In addition to regular weekly Hebrew school during the regular academic year, RJC provides preparation for our students who wish to mark their becoming a bar or bat mitzvah (collectively, b'nai mitzvah) with a Torah and haftarah reading as part of a Saturday morning service.
Our students prepare for this milestone in the year or two leading up to their 13th birthday (girls as well as boys), with regular Shabbat morning attendance, individual and group lessons with the rabbi, and personal study and reflection. By the time their event approaches, our students are not only well prepared, they have learned to delve deeply into their personal connection with Judaism and its place in their lives.
