Hebrew - Rabbi Weber

As only Ari was present this past Tuesday, (and he arrived rather late,) we just spent some time reviewing the reading of the yotzer ohr prayer and started to do some advance work for his bar mitzvah (hatzi kaddish.)\

For next week, both students should read the story on pages 44-45 of their book and do the very brief exercise on page 45. Then, please write a paragraph on the topic, "Anarchy: Heaven or Hell on Earth?" Please consult a good, fat dictionary and look up "anarchy." In brief, your paragraph should state whether or not you would like to live in an anarchic world, giving your reasons.

Please practive reading the prayer on page 46 and do the written exercises on page 47.

Class this past Tuesday was a bit different, taking place at my house. Kids seemed to enjoy having a lawn to play on during their break time. We actually got quite a bit done.

As we missed two weeks for Pesach, and one week for school vacation, we had some catching up to do. Everyone shared what he or she did on Pesach.

We started chapter 5 of their text book, which is about the prayer "mi kamocha." (Technically, for liturgy buffs, it is part of the extended "ge'ulah"--redemption--prayer which forms the bridge between the shema and its associated brachot and the tefillah.

HW:
1. In the textbook, complete all the written exercises on pages 43, 44 and 45

2. On page 45 of the textbook, there is a brief section called "An Ethical Echo." It is about the mitzvah of Pidyon Shevuyim. Assignment: Write a short paragraph in which you give an example of a "captive." What would it mean to "redeem" a captive? This one will need parental help.

3. In the WORKBOOK please do pages 28, 29 and 30.

I will be away all next week, first attending the Rabbinical Assembly convention in Boston and then travelling to NYC for the honorary doctorate ceremony. Students will have one of our highly qualified substitutes.

By next Tuesday we do not expect the classrooms or big room cleaned yet. Most activities will be upstairs, with kitah bet in the fireplace room, kitah vav in the room with the windows off of the sanctuary and kitah aleph (K/1 with Mrs. McCarthy and Samantha) in the Lash Lounge, all of
which have been cleaned up.

Shabbat Shalom

Enrichment:
Parents: Direct students to www.behrmanhouse.com where they can practice their Hebrew decoding
with “Click and Read Hebrew at Home” (the orange button) and drill prayer reading with “Click and Learn Prayer at Home” (the hot pink button). It’s also an ideal way for parents to practice along with their children.
