Hebrew - Rabbi Weber

We have completed chapter 4 of the text book. Next Tuesday we will have atest. Students should study:

1. The seven vocabulary words on page 35. Hebrew words will be presented and they will be asked to give English translations.

2. Identify the Hebrew root aleph-hey-vet (love.) Study page 36 for this.

3. From page 37, know that the prefix "ha" means "the," and that the "im" ending to words designates a plural.

4. Identify the meaning of the suffix formed with a final khaf. See page 39.

5. Know that the "v'ahavta" comes from the book of Deuteronomy, right after the "shema.

6. Know that the "v'ahavta" is also found in tefillin and in the mezuzah.

7. Know what rooms in a house may have a mezzuzah, what doors must have a mezuzzah (all the entrances into the house) and what rooms (bathrooms) may not have a mezzuzah.

8. Be able to read and write the first seven letters of the aleph-bet in cursive. (We learned vav and zayin today.)

The best way to prepare for the test is to review the textbook and to play all the games on the CD for this chapter. For the cursive writing, all of the students have this information in their machberot (notebooks.)

Just so you all know, we also spent time today learning the four questions for the seder, though that has nothing to do with next week's test.

History/Bible - Nancy Garfinkel

Hi Everyone,

Sorry for the delay in sending out the homework and class summary.  Today is the first day that I really feel better after spending 2 weeks fighting a nasty cold.  I would like to thank Mr. Stevens for being kind enough to fill in for me as a last minute substitute.  He told me that everyone was terrific and also that everyone had completed their homework from the previous week.  Nice job!

Mr. Stevens covered the story of David & Goliath with the class this week.  That is on pages 60 & 61 of the text book.  The homework is on page 62 and 63.

For homework:
Please fill in the answers to "Who was it?" and "Choose the correct answer" on page 62.  If you did not cover this next part in class, please do so for your homework.  Read the discussion on page 63 "People who brag are a drag."  Then please write the either "Anav" or "Baal gaavah" in the appropriate space and answer all the questions below the discussion reading.

Thanks again to Mr. Stevens for filling in for me.  Thank you to everyone who sent me a get well email or sent wishes home for me with my husband.

See you Tuesday.
Mrs. Garfinkel

Enrichment:
Parents: Direct students to www.behrmanhouse.com where they can practice their Hebrew decoding
with “Click and Read Hebrew at Home” (the orange button) and drill prayer reading with “Click and Learn Prayer at Home” (the hot pink button). It’s also an ideal way for parents to practice along with their children.
