Hebrew - Rabbi Weber

On Tues. March 7:

1. We learned two new letters in cursive, dalet and hey. We now can read the first five letters of the aleph-bet in script.

2. Reviewed HW concerning the pronunciation of the sheva, and the somewhat fine differences between the two in workbook, page 25.

3. Read the shema and all of v'ahavta as they are printed in many siddurim, with the musical "tropes." (Aliyah, who is in the extra class on Thursday, did a splendid job explaining to the class what these extra marks are, and helped demonstrate the first verse; nice!)

For HW I distributed a worksheet. Some of it is to be read with parents. Children should know the highlighted vocabulary. Please work with them in practicing reading the "v'ahavta" prayer if you can.

This Shabbat is Jr. Congregation.

Please note that we have only 10 more sessions left for the whole year as we only meet one time in April, due to the first and last days of Pesach and one week off for secular school vacation.

The one session scheduled in April, (April 24) Mrs. Garfinkel will be in Florida. We will need a substitute teacher for that day. Can any of you fill in, just for the one day?

History/Bible - Nancy Garfinkel

I would like to thank the kids for being so understanding and helpful to me on Tuesday.  Due to an ongoing bout with pneumonia, I had and am having great difficulty talking.  The kids were patient with me while I wrote everything that I needed to say on the board and were considerate in not making me talk more than necessary.

We went over the story of Queen Esther (as Purim was this past weekend).  I handed out a crossword puzzle for everyone to do in class.  The puzzle was received with enthusiasm and everyone helped each other try to fill in the blanks.

Homework due for Tuesday, March 13:

Finish the puzzle if you have not already done so.

Answer the questions following the story of Queen Esther in the text (again if you have not already done so)
If you have already completed these things, then have a great weekend without homework.  I will see you Tuesday (hopefully I will be much better by then)
.

Enrichment:
Parents: Direct students to www.behrmanhouse.com where they can practice their Hebrew decoding
with “Click and Read Hebrew at Home” (the orange button) and drill prayer reading with “Click and Learn Prayer at Home” (the hot pink button). It’s also an ideal way for parents to practice along with their children.
