Hebrew - Rabbi Weber

This past Tuesday I spent a bit of time starting to teach cursive writing. Each student learned how to write his or her (first) name in Hebrew cursive script, (to this point, we have only used block letters.) We also learned together, as a class, the first three letters, aleph, bet and gimel.

My plan is that each week we will learn one or two more letters, devoting about 10 minutes. It is good we have Samantha Hart with us as a classroom assistant, as she is able to circulate around the room with me to correct students' work.

We also got back into chapter 4 a little bit.

For homework: please do pages 25, 26 and 27 in the WORKBOOK.

Purim is Sat. night. Starts at 6 PM with Havadallah, and dairy pot-luck dinner. Megillah reading follows. Lots of opportunities for "shtick," comic routines and the like in between chapters of the Megillah. Remember the rules, the most important of which are:

1. Two minute limit on any act.
2. No lip synch acts
3. No child may participate unless his or her parent (at least one) also gets up to to some shtick, however brief. This may be as part of the child's act or separate.

This last rule is important. Purim, while a happy holiday with special appeal to kids, is NOT just for kids! One of the worst lessons we can teach is to juvenilize the holiday. It is a time of year for adults to show our silly sides.

Shabbat Shalom

NO homework this week.

Good class this week.  Thank you all.  See you next Tuesday.

Enrichment:
Parents: Direct students to www.behrmanhouse.com where they can practice their Hebrew decoding
with “Click and Read Hebrew at Home” (the orange button) and drill prayer reading with “Click and Learn Prayer at Home” (the hot pink button). It’s also an ideal way for parents to practice along with their children.
