Hebrew - Rabbi Weber

We had a good session on Tuesday, Jan 23. The prayer on which we are currently working "Yotzer Ohr", recited at AM services both weekdays and on Shabbat is a critical piece of what kids should know for Bar/Bat Mitzvah, so we are not leaving this page until we get it down.

No new written homework this week. Instead, please practice as much as possible reading the material on page 34 until you can do it really smoothly.

Look at page 36. Mastery and understanding of lines 1-17 is our goal. The sooner we can all read the prayer smoothly, the better. Try to work for about 10 minutes every day--better than doing any marathon session.

Please save Friday, Feb. 2 for Tu Bishvat Seder. Pot-luck dinner included in our creative "seder" for this Jewish kabbalist/ environmentalist holiday. Starts at 6:00 PM. Please remember too that our every other week Sat. Junior Congregation service is a vital part of our program. It is the major way we prepare kids for bar/bat mitzvah in terms of getting them familiar with the Shabbat service.

Shabbat Shalom

History/Philosophy - Nancy Garfinkel

Hi Everyone,

Tuesday we went over the exam questions and results. We then discussed where the answers to the questions could be found in the text book.  Each student now has a better insight into how to study for these exams. Covering all this material took most of the class time and so we did not begin any new discussions this week.

For homework due Tues., Jan 30:
Please read chapter 5 in your text and we will discuss it in our next class.

Have a good week,
Mrs. Garfinkel

Enrichment:
Parents: Direct students to www.behrmanhouse.com where they can practice their Hebrew decoding
with “Click and Read Hebrew at Home” (the orange button) and drill prayer reading with “Click and Learn Prayer at Home” (the hot pink button). It’s also an ideal way for parents to practice along with their children.
