On Jan 23 we had a short quiz on five words or phrases that make up the response to the Shema. How well students did on the quiz was directly related to whether of not, or how carefully, they had studied. Kids had already seen in class who had done well and who had not, so the grades are no secret. (I ordinarily communicate this privately, but this was just a short vocabulary quiz.)
Julia and Katie did not take the quiz as they were being tutored by Samantha. Our plan is that Samantha will continue to work with Julia and Katie seperately for the first 15 minutes of class and then join the larger group for the final 30 minutes, as they are now more ready to keep up with the rest of the group.
Only one student got all the answers correct, (plus the bonus!) Yashar Koach ("Way to go!") to Henry!
Noah, Eric and Josh got 4 out of 5 of the answers correct, plus the bonus question.
Jacob and Aliya got three or less of the answers, and no bonus question.
It was pretty clear that those students who had remembered to study learned the few words, and those who hadn't, didn't.
We have now finished Chapter 3.
Homework for next Tuesday, Jan. 30:
- Play all of the games on the CD for chapter 3 until you have mastered the games.
- There will be a test next week on all of chapter 3. Please review everything in the textbook in Chapter 3.
- I also assigned a review sheet which was sent home with kids. One side is for kids to do on their own. The other side is for YOU to do with them.
This Sat: Junior Congregation, 10:30 AM An important part of our program

Hi Everyone,
We had a good class this week. Everyone had their homework done and all were able to answer questions regarding the chapter that was covered in the homework. Nice job!
We played a couple of rounds of "Prophets Wheel of Fortune" (I bought a Wheel of Fortune game so that we could have a proper spinner and a full set of rules for how the game should be played). The puzzles to be solved were straight out of the text book. We only had time enough to solve 2 of the 4 that I had prepared. Everyone did great and played very cooperatively - helping each other to guess letters and solve the puzzle. I was very impressed with the camaraderie and efforts of each player to work together and help each other. Thank you all.
For homework this week:
Please read the next chapter on Samuel and answer the questions on the two following pages after the reading. If we have time this week, we will get to solve more "prophets wheel of fortune" puzzles.
Have a good week,
Mrs. Garfinkel
