Hebrew - Rabbi Weber

On Tuesday, January 16 we mainly played an extended card game ("Memory") as both a reading drill and vocabulary retention exercise.

We read through, as a summary--pointing out the places in the prayer where the vocabulary comes into play-- the Ma'ariv Aravim prayer.

I went over previous test and homework assignments. Both students need some reminding that final letters can ONLY occur at the end of words.

To my chagrin, I have come to the realization that both students need more reading practice (which is inherently boring, so I tend to avoid it in class and prefer to pawn it off to parents).

HOMEWORK:
In the textbook, please complete pages 33 and 34. The top of 34 is a reading drill. Parents, please help! Note, too, that the second Hebrew word has a kamatz katon. Thus, the word for wisdom is "hoch-mah" not "hach-ma." Easier to learn it correctly the first time than to unlearn a mistake.

Please save Friday, Feb. 2 for Tu Bishvat Seder. Pot-luck dinner included in our creative "seder" for this Jewish kabbalist/ environmentalist holiday. Starts at 6:00 PM. Please remember too that our every other week Sat. Junior Congregation service is a vital part of our program. It is the major way we prepare kids for bar/bat mitzvah in terms of getting them familiar with the Shabbat service.

Shabbat Shalom

History/Philosophy - Nancy Garfinkel

Hi Everyone,

OK, we got through this exam.  On Tuesday we will go over the exam answers and see where we can improve and where you might have questions.  We will also cover some of chapter 4 in the textbook.  please be prepared to ask any questions that you might have regarding the exam.  I will be glad to help.

No homework for this week.  I will see you on Tuesday.

Mrs. Garfinkel

Enrichment:
Parents: Direct students to www.behrmanhouse.com where they can practice their Hebrew decoding
with “Click and Read Hebrew at Home” (the orange button) and drill prayer reading with “Click and Learn Prayer at Home” (the hot pink button). It’s also an ideal way for parents to practice along with their children.
