On Tuesday, Jan 16, as we sometimes do, Samantha Hart (our noble teaching assistant) tutored Katie and Julia on some reading skills while I worked with the rest of the class. Starting next week, tutorial will only last half of the class period so that K and J can better intergrate with the other students.
The other six students spent half our class time playing a review card game using vocabulary they have learned. I was fairly well impressed with how much most of them have retained.
We plugged on in Chapter 3. We had a summary discussion of why the second verse of the Shema (baruch shem kavod...) is said sotto vocce (softly). Kids were able to remember the whole story about hiding from the Romans and the like.
Homework
1. Complete the short exercises on page 31 and 32.
2. Answer the question (in English) at the top right of p 30: "What does it mean to have a "good name?" What can you do to ensure your own good name?
3. Study the vocabulary list on page 29. THERE WILL BE A SHORT QUIZ ON THESE SIX WORDS (ok, five words and one phrase)
Please save Friday, Feb. 2 for Tu Bishvat Seder. Pot-luck dinner included in our creative "seder" for this Jewish kabbalist/ environmentalist holiday. Starts at 6:00 PM. Please remember too that our every other week Sat. Junior Congregation service is a vital part of our program. It is the major way we prepare kids for bar/bat mitzvah in terms of getting them familiar with the Shabbat service.
Shabbat Shalom

Hi Everyone,
Well, you should all have received your exam scores. It is now time to give yourselves a pat on the back. You all have done very good work and it showed in your grades. I am very proud of you. the class average for this test was 90! that is great!
Now, for next week. After we finished the exam this week, some of us were able to read the first chapter on Samuel (page 44 & 45) and do the exercises on the following pages (46 & 47). If you did this, great, you do not have to do any homework for next week. You should be prepared to discuss the material in class on tuesday. For the rest of you, please read the chapter and then do the exercises on the following 2 pages. We will go over the chapter in class next week and discuss the information in the chapter.
Again - Great job on your exams! See you on January 23.
