On Jan. 9, there will be a retest on the vocabulary words on page 29. Make flashcards. Have a parent quiz you. Write them. Do whatever YOU need to do in order to be able to identify these words.

- Nancy Garfinkel
Hi Everyone,
I hope that you all enjoyed your winter break and are ready to get back to work.
Today we watched a short movie called: Jewish America: Making of the West. It discussed how the Jewish immigrants to America went along with the rest of US residents in moving out west to settle in California, Colorado, Texas, Nevada and even Florida and elsewhere in the deep south. Between 1880 and 1921 more than 2 million Jews came to the US from Europe looking to make a new life.
This movie also briefly covered the history of European Jews during the Inquistion, and Eastern European Jews during the pogroms of late 19th and early 20th century in Russia. These are topics that we have already touched on in class.
For homework:
I would like you to review chapters 3 & 4 in your text book and the November, December and January issues of Babaganewz for a test next week. Keep in mind the information from today's movie, you just might see a question or two from the movie in the test. If you have any questions, please email me.
See you next week.
Mrs. Garfinkel
Enrichment:
Parents: Direct students to www.behrmanhouse.com where
they can practice their Hebrew decoding with “Click and Read Hebrew
at Home” (the orange button) and drill prayer reading with “Click
and Learn Prayer at Home” (the hot pink button). It’s also an ideal
way for parents to practice along with their children.
