I'm not sure of the intent of the original question, but in practive, no, the RJC ought not to promote the sale or use of non-kosher food by Jews. That said, were a secular non-profit organization running, for example, a (non-kosher) Thanksgiving dinner for indigent people, I would encourage RJC members to volunteer to cook and serve. I have done so personally at soup kitchens and the like in the past. A synagogue, especially when located in a "one schul town" needs to be kosher to the best of its ability. We ought to be catering to the most observant rather than the least ritually observant of our people. After all, the non-observant may eat anywhere; the RJC is indeed the only place for 100 miles in most directions where a kashrut observant Jew may eat. I will be speaking and writing on kashrut issues in the spring, as our Torah portions get into Leviticus, where these issues first arise. Rabbi Doug Weber
